For now the open source version is dead. When you have a look at the viplugin 
homepage http://www.satokar.com/viplugin/index.php you can see that in the 
last 4 versions functionality improvements and bugfixes have been done and 
this will continue to evolve that way. I'm currently working on macro support 
and visual line mode. You can also check the feature comparision table.
