Have you considered using a ransomware model for vi plugin development funding? Since the cold reception to a commercial version of vi-plugin (which i've used for a long time now), the pace of development has slowed to a crawl. If that is a function of the fact that you can't get paid for developing vi-plugin, you might set up a fund to pay for further development based on features. I, for one, would chip in a few bucks for marks, for external commands, MOST DEFINITELY for a macro language, etc. Ransom is a good model to encourage payment for development work while keeping a application opensource and free (as in beer).
