#67 3.0 hangs on splash screen

Got the src and used jdk1.8.0_301 from oracle
built the code in Eclipse and then I got this when opening a file that I had created from the head;
Trying to find the 2.0 branch to roll back to it and try that

wasn't able to open a file that I had saved (on the git master branch) but can save files.
