It *would* be nice, but it hardly ever happens.

My rationale: PASSTHROUGH is always set manually, i.e. the user has
specifically requested it. Dumping him back to normal mode would seem
to go against the expectations ("I set PASSTHROUGH"). INSERT is usually
handled automatically, so this should work in both directions
(activation and deactivation).
