I noticed this behaviour on Fedora Core machine with  latex-suite
20060325. This happens when opening tex file using nautilus open with
menu. Strangely it did not happen when started from terminal, or when
I explicitly told nautilus to open tex files with gvlm. So my advice
will be to try opening tex files from command line.
