I agree on the pertinence of such feature.

I also a similar feature to change the name of the outer command:

The file also contains:
- some function everybody already knows
- a wrapper that help the user choose the environment he wishes to
  insert -- thanks to a dialog box.
- a function from the old TKlatex to insert sections
- and two commands to change the outer font: ie.
     \nameofthefont{text cursor_here text}
  eases the change of the font for the current context.
