Using macros generates the right latex code but the macro itself is not removed. For example the macro EIT gives:

EIT\begin{itemize}
\item
\end{itemize}<++>

or

`8\infty

    I found out what the problem was. It was related to the backspace setting in vim. set backspace=2 solved this issue for me.
