Backup files are only successfully hidden if they are in the same directory as the file being edited (where they will be with default settings). I need to implement parsing of the 'backupdir' option to get it working all the way.

Minor issue since if you've set 'backupdir' you probably don't get annoyed by the backup files in your directory anyway.
