Agreed that some form of showing cache state of each tile would be a useful addition.
Adding a small coloured square (optional) overlay for a map layer seems to be a prudent method.
NB Currently one can find one individual tile details by selecting the map layer in the left hand panel, then selecting the Maps Download tool, then right clicking somewhere on the map and finally selecting Show Tile Information.
This only shows the raw tile image timestamp and so not such a straight-forward view.
I'm also considering introducing a per map layer cache timeout period, rather just the preferences //Tile Age// - which applies to all maps.
