I am trying to fit a raster image of a map to my track data using a GeoRef layer. I can zoom in the X and Y directions, but not rotate the map. Rotation is part of the world file specification, but "Viking ignores the rotation values", per the FAQ.
Unfortunately, this limits the utility of the GeoRef layer, because I can only use images that are already perfectly rotated.
This would be great. I would like the maps to also "auto-rotate" to the direction that your moving (when using gps tracking) so that when tracking, the map always rotates and points in the direction that you are actually moving. would this be possible?
GeoRef layer rotation support has now been added to the latest source code.
NB1 Note that this rotation support is specific for GeoRef layers, rather than a general display rotation as mentioned by @Rick Bragg above.
NB2 I'm not a great fan of map rotation for direction of travel, although it is possible for the future. The main downside of map rotation is that Viking currently only uses raster maps, which normally have the text labels of places horizontally aligned, thus when rotated it makes the text much harder to read.
