I installed Viking 1.7 from a tarball but cannot get it to work, e.g. display a default map. Previously I had Viking 1.6.2 installed from the PPA and it worked well. In the post "New to Viking - observed strange behaviour" http://bit.ly/2RlEK8d a number issues are identified for Viking 1.6.2. These are also likely to affect V1.7.
How do I set a routing engine that actually works and supplies a GPX stream as OSRM is no longer compatible?
How can I set a tile/map server that actually sends tiles?
What minimum preferences and settings do I need to get V1.7 working? (What current settings do I need to report to assist a reader to diagnose the problem?)
What permisions do I need to set on directories and paths in terms of ROOT or USER (or both)?
I used #which gpsbabel to find and set the path for GPSBabel (installed separately to Viking tarball installation) so I think that is okay.
I am too inexperienced with Viking to come up with a troubleshooting plan to find and fix the many problems stopping Viking from working.
Ubuntu 18.04.2 LTS Bionic Beaver
Viking 1.7
GPSBabel 1.5.4
