For my newspaper delivery job I use viking to hand-draw tracks for my delivery routes: One delivery district corresponds to one delivery district and is named by it's number. For example: "district 710100" or "district 110200".
For now I only have 5 tracks in viking but my of tracks will grow as I get new districts, so finding a particular track in the list to export it to my mobile gps receiver will get confusing soon.
So I tried to drag and drop tracks to sort them by number, but the track alsways snaps back to it's original position in the list.
I don't know if this is a bug or feature request, but I hope my description shows that it would be useful to be able to sort tracks either
(a) manually by dragging a particular track to a new position in the list or
(b) automatically by name.
Greetings, thank you :-)
Markus
I think this is working as designed. For tracks and routes, there are 3 choices for sort key: by name, by date, or by number. If you want complete control of the order the tracks (or routes) appear, independent of names or dates, chose to sort them by number, then you a assign a number to each track (or route) on its properties dialog. The numbers do not have to be consecutive.
Hey @lbayuk ,
thanks for your kind reply :-)
I am new to viking and learn as I go.. For instance, I didn't know a sorting function existed until I read your post here ;-)
After writing a loooong post in reply to you, then reconsidering, searching through the menus several times, I finally found the drop-down box to set the sorting key:
For other readers in the future:
1. Right click on the Waypoint-Track Layer
2. choose Properties
3. Select Tab Tracks advanced
4. Scroll down to Track sorting order
5. choose Name acending (in my case)
Thank you for pointing me to the right direction!
I consider this issue as solved
P.S.:
My initial impression, tracks could be dragged and dropped, stems from the gui behaviour: When you try to drag an entry from the list, it "sticks" to the mouse cursor like a desktop icon that in fact can be dragged around.
Only when you try to drop the list entry, it snaps back to it's original location.
If the "sticking on" had not happened, I would not have considered drag-and-drop to be possible at all.
This may be an issue with the gui toolkit and I cannot evaluate if this behaviour can or should be changed, but it was this little thing that lead me to the wrong direction in the first place.
Maybe this is worth another bug ticket, but as i wrote, I don't know :-)
Greetings

There is a shortcut to setting the sorting order for tracks: Right-click on the Tracks sub-layer under your Track Waypoint layer name. The popup menu has the sorting options under Sort there. It works for Waypoints and Routes too.
