ENHANCEMENT REQUEST

It would be useful to be able to select multiple points, either contiguous or non-contiguous, for further mapping. Some selection methods might be to select:

  • A single point
  • Several single points by holding down a modification key (e.g. Ctrl) and selecting arbitrary (possibly non-contiguous) points one after another
  • Points on a subset of the track by selecting a point at enad end
  • Points by dragging a rectangle or ellipse over a subset of the track
  • A point and extend the selection to the start or end of the entire track
  • The entire track.

Each of these selections could then be operated on in various ways. For example, the selection could be:

  • Moved
  • Deleted
  • Copied
  • Cut
  • Pasted (for example, to shift part of a track from an outbound bikepath beside a multilane road to the inbound bikepath on the other side of the road
  • Simplified by reducing points on different types of lines or curves
  • Interpolated with additional points to better define corners, deviations, arcs
  • Matched to thoroughfares (lanes, paths, drives, roads, etc.) on a map
  • Converted to trackpoints, routepoints, or waypoints
  • Operated on by gpsbabel.

This is known long standing deficiency in Viking (i.e. almost from the beginning), so don't expect to see rapid progress on this issue.
I was fairly sure there was an existing ticket but I can't find it presently.

Yes, please! This is a massive deficiency that makes it necessary to switch between other apps to get simple track edits done.
