By design, the difference between "track" and "route" is that "track" is recorded from the path of the user, while "route" is created beforehand, to assist the user to take the correct path.
Thus, it would be logical to allow manual editing of routes, while editing tracks is of questionable value. Viking (as of 1.5.1) does it the other way around: manual editing of tracks is possible, while manual editing of routes is not. My workaround, when I need to edit a route, is to transform it into track, edit, and transform back to route, which is not a big deal, but feels wrong.
I'd suggest to make it possible to edit routes directly. Editing tracks directly may or may not be disabled at the same time.
Thanks!
You can edit routes directly.
This method is the same for tracks and routes:
Enable the 'Select' tool from the toolbar.
Lift click on a route (or track) point to select the point (the point becomes slightly bigger).
Left click (around same point again), hold down and drag moves the point to where ever you want.
Alternatively right clicking allows various operations including split here, delete this point, insert point before/after, Edit Trackpoint** etc,etc... from the selected point.
** Opens the same Edit Trackpoint dialog for Trackpoints and Routepoints, but when opened on routepoints various time operations are disabled.
Other methods of editing trackpoints should work on routepoints too, unless I'm mistaken. What is your method of editing trackpoints that doesn't work on routepoints?
HTH.
That indeed works, thanks!
However, it is very un-obvious that you need to use the "arrow" button to edit, when there is a dedicated button to "edit trackpoint". But "edit trackpoint" does not work on route points. Maybe if it did, and was renamed to "edit point" or "edit track/route point" it would be clearer.
Thanks.
To clarify the phrase "edit trackpoint does not work on route points":
When you select "edit trackpoint" and click near a trackpoint, the latter gets selected and editable. But when you click near a route point, it does not get selected.

When you select "edit trackpoint" and click near a route point, it is meant to get selected.
I spotted a bug in the code, so sometimes this does not work in 1.5.X (and I think not in any earlier version either that support routes) - hence retitled and I'll try to change this feature request to a bug.
I have considered renaming it to something like "edit point" or "edit track/route point", but I have left it alone for compatibility with international translations.
