    If I copy an image and paste into vietocr the image shows but ocr doesn't do anything.
    Opening the file works fine.

    I would like to be able to copy parts of images and just perform ocr on various parts.

    using Gentoo Linux and Gimp.

    thanks
    Donald

    How did you copy an image? Screen prints or screen captures are typically only 96 DPI, a resolution not high enough for OCR. It requires at least 200 DPI.

    You can use the mouse to draw a rectangle to define the area you want to recognize.

    Using gimp 2.6 I open a 300dpi grayscale image select an area and copy it then switch to vietocr and ctrl-v to paste. Image shows fine but ocr produces nothing. If I go back to gimp and paste as new image and then save I can open the file and ocr works fine. Thanks for the hint about selecting an area and ocr just recognises text in that area- it actually does what I was trying to achieve so the pasting is not a problem to me now. thanks for the great software

    I conducted a brief test with GIMP and verified that copy action indeed cut out a 96 DPI subimage.

    Glad that the program has been helpful to you.

    Regards.

    Version 1.8 now supports OCR of screenshots.
