Activity on the videoDB mailing list has increased a bit lately- mostly due
do the fact the we have some long-open issues like engine updates for
fetching IMDB data etc. that have not been fully fixed yet. On top of that
we have meanwhile accumulated a lot of functionality in terms on engines and
templates that is no longer actively maintained by the original authors.
As it seems I'm as the project maintainer am currently the only
(semi-)active team member working on videoDB. However- the project is far
from dead. I believe we're the single feature packed, web-based video
database out there. But even I cannot spend as much time as I used to
working on videoDB. I've got a family life to take care of, a job to do and
actual hobbies beyond computers- especially as it's bike season again.
To improve responsiveness and turnaround time - and actually make it into
new releases I'd therefore like to encourage everybody to actively look for
solutions. I'd be happy to commit any patches you're submitting to CVS and
release a new version here and there- but can spend little time only in
troubleshooting and fixing. The basic code has meanwhile become quite solid,
sufficiently documented and modular for maitenance.
The other thing we might do is removing obsolete, unneeded and unwanted
functionality- most specifically templates and engines nobody is using. This
would improve the first-use experience and lessen maintenance and upgrade
So bottom line- I'd like to invite anybody who wants to help and participate
to contact me. Everybody else- glad if you want to bribe me ;)
Looking forward to preparing a solid 2.5 release,
