- milestone: 138404 --> Vexed 3
- priority: 5 --> 3
From John Harvey (harveysonline@bigpond.com):
Getting further away from the relatively subtle changes you are
incorporating and I have suggested, an idea I had for adding interest to the
game is to add some variation (maybe in a future version?). Here are some
ideas for Vexed that would increase the possibilities for level design:
- Some solid walls actually let blocks fall through them like in Loderunner.
This might work well in conjunction with the undo feature to facilitate
experimentation.
- Certain blocks can move differently from others, eg a balloon block can
'float' in any direction.
- Certain combinations of blocks can 'blast' a hole in the solid structure
adjacent to them when they come into contact with each other. This may be
something like a dynamite block and a flame block, or a directional blast
like a cannon block and a flame block.
- Certain blocks might change colours or patterns (one or both) when they
come into contact with each other or certain fixed blocks. You might design
movable blocks with a different coloured inner core and outer shell (two
levels/colours), or different central core, mid-core and outer shell (three
concentric squares of different colour). Blocks you move might somehow
change one of the colours in an adjacent block. For example, when two or
more blocks with the same colour in one of their levels are adjacent to
another block, the corresponding part of that other block also changes to
that colour. Identical blocks might disappear as normal when they are
adjacent to each other. Alternatively, when both or all three colours are
the same within the one block, it disappears.
- No doubt you can think of many ideas that could provide puzzle variation,
but I think I like this last multi-colour/changing colour idea the best.
