View mode for a current/selected system: pictogram-based "what is orbiting what" hierarchy of objects, much like F3->F7 does in FFE.
Especially given that VS already stores it structured like this.

As the next step: selectable docks on the planet/unit (and its subunits) and basic summary of "interesting" subunits (those planetary defences, for one).

Controls - something like:
click on the object - switch focus (as a "root" or maybe 1 level below root of the displayed tree, so you can click up)
mouse pan
buttons, map browsing set (various map modes and "map reset"); possible duplicated as hotkeys
buttons, hierarchy: "up" and "top"; possible duplicated as hotkeys
button, "destination" (set the autopilot's navigation target to focus); possible duplicated as hotkeys
exit / Esc
