Hi Guys, quick bug report on soho1.26 this was not announced on mailing list but I found it in the admin irc channel critical bug: the cd2 iso image is no longer installed the packages from it are recognized but not installed. This is the first time I have seen this so must be a oversight due to recent work on improving the installation of actual second cd media. minor bugs: VL-theme pkg is causing problems with grub as its generating a initrd.old file .........this package needs to be fixed or removed as it is not working . vasm package is missing a desktop icon coming up with no icon in kde menu vasmcc package needs fixing missing icons are causing it to crash at the utilities section some of these have been around for awhile but thought i would relist just to jog the fixit department (which includes me) other wise all went well but need to fix the no install of cd2 via iso image. I fixed grub so it would ignore the initrd.old file, and I have fixed the VL-Theme pkg and the vasmCC pkg I am running tests here to see what I can tell about the 2nd CD, I will let you know what I find. Not sure I understand what you're saying. I have installed this in 3 machines... 2 laptops one desktop. Install went as smooth as can be. All of my software is installed, I burned the ISO's and the cd trays even ejected at the prompt. The only thing It did not install were the language packs, I'll have to check that again. Here is the installation log for one of my installs http://nopaste.com/p/aeGGXFb70 You can see where packages like koffice and openoffice where installed, these are on the second disc. Can you check and see if those where installed from your ISO? I've ran tests using iso's on uel's box and it does work... I'm curios why yours is failing. |

Nothing on cd2 was installed as the installer for some strange reason did not pick up the cd2 iso for processing. I haven't used physical cd's for sometime as the iso option has worked pretty flawlessly till now. I'll try it again see if it was a glitch of some kind. Uel says he has some packages fixed so I might wait and see if we get new iso's with the fixes. I can confirm the bug here. I used older 1.18 ISO to boot from, made sure the installer was updated to 800 then selected the 1.26 ISO I had on a partition selected a few pkgs from 2nd ISO and started installing. I did not even get a prompt for he second ISO On 9/13/09, Robert Lange <vec...@ya...> wrote: > > Nothing on cd2 was installed as the installer for some strange reason did > not pick up the cd2 iso for processing. When both ISO's are in the same location, it will not prompt you. It will detect it and mount it and try to match it all on its own. If it does not match the first one or if the second ISO is in a different location, it will prompt you to point it out. Did you have both on the same location? |

Hello, 1.26, r802: Aside from a few mostly minor issues related to installing lilo, the install went very smooth. I was prompted for the 2nd cd as usual (vmware using iso as mounted cdrom). During bootloader, I cannot make the bootloader use 'initrd.old'. I CAN select it as an option, but regardless of it's selection 'initrd' will be used in lilo.conf or grub.cnf. LILO: -text-mode lilo entry is still missing 'read-only' from lilo.conf -timeout still does not respect user setting for lilo -label issue (15 characters) persists for lilo -wifi-rader service fails to start during boot, showing two failed messages. This has been the case since the first alpha I ever tried. -root still does not get a default icon for KDM -analog clock is orphaned outside viewable desktop at 800x600 -missing icons in KDE menu, as already mentioned That's pretty much it. All are very minor issues. Cheers, newt |

Hello, 1.26, r802: I did a little more testing with regional settings and languages in mind. Here are a couple issues I came across: -kde language packs do not get installed (i.e. not on cd1 or cd2) -Installer options that don't seem to affect KDM/KDE: -Regional Settings: used spanish installer, latin america keyboard mapping, 104 keyboard -At user creation: checked the "use regional settings for user" option -First boot: configuration using vxconf asks about keyboard mapping/layout even though I chose the 'use regional settings for user' option mentioned above. I went ahead and chose default us/102 keyboard. -kdm uses new vxconf settings (us/102 keyboard mappings) -kde uses new vxconf settings for user (us/102 keyboard mappings) -In other words, the 'use regional settings for user' option at user account creation does not seem to have any effect. Either that, or it's overwritten during vxconf configuration. -I would expect that if a user checks the "use regional settings for user" option that they would not like to have to repeat that step during the first boot. -I can certainly understand the complexities of making all of these little things work as a user may expect, especially when user expectations may be misguided. I'm only bringing this up because I've seen posts in the past related to this (especially keyboard mappings). Cheers, newt |

We may need to modify something somewhere.. I can tell you I have no intention of jacking with vxconf or /etc/X11/xorg.conf from the installer... It's just not a viable option. I think what's happening is just an old xorg rule. The values in xorg.conf override what's in the user's bashrc... I'm not sure, but I think that may be the case. I'm only doing modifications at the user's home level in .bashrc. I know KDE follows the LANG setting from there, and when language packs are installed, it works flawlessly. (I have not tested keybd mappings yet) I need to figure out why the language packs are not getting installed. |

I think the problem is that the default xsession does not read .bashrc only .bash_profile or .profile if we create a .bash_profile and have it source .bashrc problem maybe solved. cheers, Vec Robert Lange vec...@ya... http://www.vectorlinux.com --- On Mon, 9/14/09, M0E Lnx <m0...@gm...> wrote: > From: M0E Lnx <m0...@gm...> > Subject: Re: [Vectorlinux-devel] bug report VLSOHO1.26 - more > To: "Vector Linux developer's list" <vec...@li...> > Received: Monday, September 14, 2009, 4:22 PM > We may need to modify something > somewhere.. > I can tell you I have no intention of jacking with vxconf > or > /etc/X11/xorg.conf from the installer... Hello, Regarding KDE language packs: I do not find them anywhere on 1.26 CD2 which would certainly explain them not being installed. Then again, maybe I've just overlooked them somewhere.
