BUG REPORT: CRITICAL!! I could not figure out why grub was not working with my default install partition until I realized there was no kernel installed there. Big bug no kernel installed to default boot partition.........everything else seemed to go fine tho....:) Cheers, Robert Robert Lange vec...@ya... http://www.vectorlinux.com --- On Wed, 9/9/09, uel archuletta <ue...@gm...> wrote: > From: uel archuletta <ue...@gm...> > Subject: [Vectorlinux-devel] VL6.0-SOHO-A1.24 > To: "Vector Linux developer's list" <vec...@li...> > Received: Wednesday, September 9, 2009, 11:44 AM > new ISO > new installer > fixed initrd > > ftp://vectorlinux.osuosl.org/pub/vectorlinux/Uelsk8s/test/VL6.0-SOHO-A1.24.iso > > ftp://vectorlinux.osuosl.org/pub/vectorlinux/Uelsk8s/test/VL6.0-SOHO-A1.24-CD2.iso > > > -----Inline Attachment Follows----- > > ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ > Let Crystal Reports handle the reporting - Free Crystal > Reports 2008 30-Day > trial. Hello, I was able to get this installed yesterday. I had to manually install the kernel from the source since, as Robert pointed out, it does not get installed. Skip the bootloader installation step. Chroot to target, edit lilo.conf and add entry, install lilo. Then finish up with installation. The default desktop experience has reverted to the leaf wallpaper, black theme, and Folder View. I'm still not totally decided on which I prefer - Desktop or Folder view. If widgets could be confined to the Widget Dashboard similar to the Mac OSX Dashboard, then my preference would be Folder view with Widget Dashboard quicklaunch on kde panel. However, since that doesn't seem possible at this time I guess I'm more partial to Desktop view with no widgets which is too bad because the addition of widgets is very nice eye candy. However, I find the widgets a useless addition without the ability to hide them - they lead to an overly cluttered visual experience. Regardless, this doesn't have much to do with VL1.24, just a rant :D I did notice that some things had also reverted: VasmCC does not start/not installed, opera lost it's menu icon, sound did not seem to be working as it always had. That's about were I stopped testing. I felt like the KDE experience had gone back a few renditions (i.e. circa 1.17). However, this was not the best test due to the installer issues relating to kernel installation, so I'll just mark this one as 'ignored' and happily wait for the next alpha. I did notice that KDE was upped to 4.3.1!! It's definitely progressing! I think I have this bug squashed now... I'm getting the kernel now in the correct place. I'd like for someone else to try with the updated installed and see if it works. I will run one more test to check things out, but my tests on vm are really slow. |

Hello M0E, 1.24, r790: I am still net getting the kernel copied to /mnt/target/boot. I'm looking back through gambas console and see: MdlMain.INSTALL_KERNEL_AND_INITRD.1035: Copying kernels and initrd now... Step9.Form_Open.101: Kernels installed MdlMain.Get_FULL_TLZ_PACKAGE.1719: vlconfig2 not found in ISO Step9.INSTALL_VL_CONFIG.271: vlconfig2 has been previously moved to the target Those debugging messages would seem to indicate that the kernel was installed however I can vouche that it does not show up in /mnt/target/boot. If the kernel is infact truly installed at one point then does the vlconfig2 package somehow mess with the kernel after-the-fact? Also, where does the kernel reside once the user ejects CD1 and inserts CD2? Yeah. Aparently the bug still persists. My test install ran for 2-1/2 hours though... it's a shame. Are you guys experiencing performance hits with the new installer on real hardware or is it just me? |
