Hello, One comment so far: Opera starts from an 'unclean' state. Generally, Opera's first use displays the EULA and then continues to load the browser. The version on the live CD begins from a previously used session. That's it so far. Hello, A couple more minor things: -System Profiler and Benchmark doesn't do anything when selected from the menu. -Adie starts with it's titlebar out of the desktop region. Hello, That's all. Everything I found was very minor and not a deal breaker - though I did not test the install options usb/hdd/etc. This feels like a very nice live distro to me; quick to boot, quick to desktop, very responsive, plenty of packages to work with. Everything looks good so far. I will try a few apps and stuff and report back if I find any problem. I tried the script VLXconf and it worked so i tried it on a couple different partitions here and some work others give same error you have. IMO you should change the kernel while you can. but it is a livecd so security shouldnt be primary concern there. you can always tell them to update the kernel if they install it. Found some problems already, which did not exist using old kernel: - On my laptop, with a Linksys wireless card (bcm43), wicd-client does not see any wireless networks. VLwifi connects without problems. - On an Intel 82801 integrated machine, the NIC is not working. Maybe I did something wrong in the kernel upgrade. Roy, Depending on which version of the bcm43 chip your wireless rig has, you may need to modprobe either b43 or b43legacy to see which one works for you. I have a bcm43 in an old Belkin PCI wireless adapter and have found that the b43 module works for me. My concern is not really this specific issue, rather the fact that 30 minutes worth of testing after upgrading kernel revealed two significant changes in the behavior of the system. I had spent a lot of time testing the prior version, on several different machines. I had clicked through and verified operation of every item on the menu, and felt that it was good to go. The kernel change sets the process back several steps, probably weeks worth of time. I can see using Light Live as a test bed for the new kernel, but if so it needs to be presented as such, in alpha form. Roy |
