Gentlemen, To be frank, I need help putting SOHO 6.0 together. I need testers I need package builders and I need a main administrater to put together test iso's as we are ready. After the successful release of 6.0 standard and light there seems little interest in the SOHO version. We do have a substantial user base that relys on this release. So all that can help please raise your hand. I can't do it all myself with any hope of keeping up the stable VectorLinux image. Any comments on the state of VL development are welome and I would enjoy a discussion here as to how to get more people involved. Thank you for your replies! Cheers, Vec Robert Lange vec...@ya... http://www.vectorlinux.com __________________________________________________________________ Looking for the perfect gift? Hello, I can put together ISO's. I will need more help than before with lists of pkgs to be included and such, and more time in between ISO's. Also we will have to decide what installer we are going to use and if we are ready to jump to new lzma format or if that will wait. Thanks, Uel On Fri, Jun 5, 2009 at 2:02 AM, Robert Lange <vec...@ya...> wrote: > > Gentlemen, > To be frank, I need help putting SOHO 6.0 together. All, I went to the slackware-64current directory and built tar, xzutils and the slackware pkgtools. They are installed on this VL 6.0 standard gold box I'm using right now. I've had no problems at all with using these items. The xzutils, aloing with tar-1.22, support our present tlz packages nicely. A couple of differences between what we are using now and the Slackware pkgtools stuff in the slackware64-current tree: 1) His pkgtools-tukaani includes both the packaging scripts and tar-1.13. The Slackware pkgtools package includes only the packaging scripts. However... 2) The pkgtools-tukaani includes a patched version of tar-1.13, whereas the Slackware method of building tar involves building both tar-1.13 and tar-1.22 and packaging them in the same package. The tar-1.22 binary includes a patch to support the txz package standard. 3) As mentioned earlier, the xzutils support the tlz package format we are presently using. Thus, we don't need to do anything else to support our present tlz packages when we switch to the latest and greatest pkgtools. These packages, along with source and buildscripts, are being uploaded to my vectorcontrib directory as I type this. They will be in a directory called "forsoho60". Thus, the changes we need to make are: 1) Upgrade the pkgtools-tukaani package with the new pkgtools package. 2) Remove the tar package we are presently using and use the new tar package. 3) Deprecate the lzma utilities and use the xzutils package. I'll be able to work on the KDE 4 stuff if you'd like me to do so. John M0E Lnx wrote: > > I vote new lzma format. Uel, I will need you to tell me if we need to do anything new in the installation procedure to accommodate new pkg format.
