I wondered about something like that, but didn't think the number being used made much sense if that was the case... I use a separate home partition. Since all the distributions I'm currently using start UIDs from 1000, I can then use a common area for documents, downloads, etc. Having SOHO assign 1002 breaks its ability to use the shared resources, which is a real pain.... > is there a reason you are not importing old user? At the moment, mainly because I didn't want to carry over any problems from earlier alphas, and since the user accounts haven't been used much, it has been easier to simply use a new user account. Is there any way of forcing the correct UID? That would solve the problem for me, and I'm not sure how many others would find it as much of a stopper as I do.
