I've installed it in the alpha, and had no problems with it. I'm _really_ glad to say they seem to have fixed Fish. At least I was able to transfer files in both directions when logged into my NAS. I'll test it a bit more (probably install it in 6.0 Standard as well). On the alpha, a couple of other things. For reasons best known to the KDE developers, Konsole always starts as a login shell, so ~/.bashrc is not executed. It would be a good idea to source ~/.bashrc in ~/.bash_profile - that way things like aliases would be picked up. I also have a problem with ~/.bash_profile. It claims to set LANG using the keyboard selections made in the GUI installer. However, in my case, even though I selected a UK keyboard layout, LANG is being set as en_US. Not quite the desired result.... Another problem. For some reason, first user created in the alpha system is being given UID 1001 instead of the Slackware standard 1000. This is really annoying - I have multiple users (from multiple distros) sharing a home directory. All the other distros (including 6.0 Standard and 6.0 light) use 1000 as the first UID, so I'm able to share a number of things without problems. With the SOHO alpha, that sharing fails because of the changed UID. Can we please go back to starting user UIDs from 1000? So far, I've not hit any other problems with the new alpha - looking pretty good. paul. |
