The only minor glitch I hit was at the ncurses resolution selection stage - the bottom of the box was overwritten by the load message for the trackpoint. Other than that, the install went without a hitch. MC seemed to work fine with the txz packages. Is there a package for 4.7.0pre3 available? I'd like to test using shell link, which I use a lot, and which has been broken in the recent svn versions I've tried. I notice that once installed, MC reverts to 4.6.2Pre1, not the version available during the install. All the X eye-candy works for me with this alpha - first time it has. I've got wobbly windows, workspaces on a cube, all very smart! The only thing I did have a bit of a problem with was playing films - I was getting some stuttering and odd speedups in places. May just be the Intel driver - it hasn't been good in recent versions of Xorg. I also found that after maximising the movie player (Dragon?), I lost all the window controls and ended up with X becoming unresponsive - had to use CTRL-ALT-BackSpace to kill X and restart it. I had to fiddle with mixer controls to get sound, but I've had to do that with most distros installed on the T61 - it looks as though the Alsa drivers for Intel HDA are not all there yet. Once I'd configured the switches (for some reason, speaker is never ticked), selected speaker, then unmuted the speaker option, sound works. I noticed that the Vcpufreq selection in VasmCC does nothing. I've also not tested Grub - I have a Grub legacy install that I use, so I skipped the boot loader and manually added the SOHO alpha to my /boot/grub/menu.lst. Other than that, looks very good indeed. I could almost grow to like KDE 4... paul. |
