KDM user icons will not show unless you select an icon during user setup.
Otherwise the installer assumes that you do not want to use icons. And, the
theme has to support user icons... just a note that the final theme will
support them.
 If you forget to select a user icon during installation, you can log in
root @ KDM and open System Settings/Advanced tab/Login Manager/Users tab/
..then under "User Image Source" and "User Images", you can select an icon
for your users there and apply.

The Blebd theme for desktop does look nice. I use on my desktop while
testing. However, I am not able to duplicate the issues described while
changing settings and themes. Perhaps some systems might need to logout
after changes? The menu not showing up, might be due to graphics driver. Try
using the 16 color mode instead of the 24 color mode during installation (or
edit xorg.conf instead) to see if this brings back the menu. If this is the
case, the classic menu will work for you via right click on the menu icon.
