Here are my notes from the install with 256mb ram:

I opted for the open-source 'ati' driver and the system worked well, not the
fastest but well enough to use - even OpenOffice. I then tried updating the driver
to the proprietary and that did not work - blank screen with blinking cursor when
kdm should have started. That's all for now.
