Hello, Just ran through A1.9.16 install and it worked much better. I was able to actually reach KDE after post-install configuration. Below are more notes I kept during the process: >>> Preamble: vmware virtual install; new virtual machine; new partitions; custom/manual package selection. >>> >>> Comment: Once JWM is loaded it takes about 70 seconds for the installer to >>> load. Seems lengthy, but perhaps this is just a 'virtual' symptom??? >>> >>> Installer allows me to move forward without choosing the mount point for my >>> partitions (is this okay?) - I did not attempt this install but noticed this >>> was possible. (maybe a grayed out 'next' until an option is chosen OR have one selected by default) >>> >>> Customize Your Installation: Unselecting X11 gives a warning - 'conponent' (spelling) >>> >>> I'm still able to get fatal unexpected errors when clicking back a forth >>> between package selection and installation summary pages. I only attempted >>> this twice because of the time lag in between tries (rebooting each time) >>> >>> Credits: uels8s 'istaller' still mispelled >>> >>> grub is unlocked - great!! >>> lilo installs correctly (no initrd images to choose from) - great!! >>> grub installs successfully - great!! >>> >>> root 'passwrord' still mispelled >>> >>> add user page looks better (i.e. buttons all show correctly) - great!! >>> >>> ifplugd service description says 'vmware modules' (inaccurate, right?) >>> >>> reboot button works correctly - great!! >>> >>> lilo is standard even though I chose bootsplash-high (maybe lilo is not fully configured for bootsplash yet?) >>> >>> post-install conifiguration works much better, and is less redundant - great!! >>> >>> I selected all services during install and, upon reboot, noticed many >>> iptables errors, vmware errors; route and basic network show on same line; avahidaemon and avahinsconfig fail >>> >>> Upon first selecting my username from the kdm menu I receive an alert box >>> stating: "Your saves session type 'xfce' is not valid any more. Please select >>> a new one, otherwise 'default' will be used." Since this was my first visit to >>> kdm I had not actually done anything yet so this alert is bewildering. >>> >>> KDM does not seem to have an 'OK/Login' button after entering usename and >>> password, however 'Enter' key works fine. >>> >>> First boot into KDS, adonadi server failed and something else. >>> >>> Desktop folder, 2 VL items, both do not have icons (i.e. icon is a peice of paper with question mark). >>> >>> Missing packages: No gimp, no opera, no xmms, no open office, vasmcc icon missing >>> >>> tried starting vasmcc and, after entering root password, received 'command >>> not found'. 'vasmcc' command not found in terminal as root, only vasm-functions >>> >>> As root, tried starting kwrite from terminal and received error about 'No >>> DBUS session-bus found. Communication error with launcher. Exiting". As user, kwrite works fine. Cheers, newt Friday, July 10, 2009, 2:10:26 AM, you wrote: RL> We have a new iso.
