I still think we should consider recompressing our packages to the new lzma format if it offers better compression advantages. It is good that it supports our current pkg format, this is goog for compatibility w/ our current online repos, but I think the iso still needs to be re-compressed On Jun 6, 2009 10:45 PM, "Robert Lange" <vec...@ya...> wrote: Hi Guys, First of all my sincere thanks to you all for joining in here on a very important part of VectorLinux, the SOHO project. We really haven't utilized this mailing list as much as we should as it gives us all a record of whats going on and who has done what. I think we need to push to get more people to join the list and as a result get more people involved in some area of development. I think JohnB cleared the confusion on the new slackware package format and it looks like we can safely jump to the new package tools without having to rebuild all of the existing tlz packages. Now the biggest hurtle is to come up with a sane package list for SOHO that can fit on a 700 mb CD. I think taking out all of xfce its depends and a lot of fonts is a start then see how much gnome we really need for the remaining gtk apps we use is a start. MOE's new installer is based on a package install so no more bulks which means we will have to examine our vl specific packages and maybe create some new ones to accomodate this change (which i think is good in the long run) Again thanks to all for taking time out of your busy lives to get this task accomplished!!!!
