uel,
 i agree with vagner in a general sense. ideally with one CD we should be
able to do the following.
1. Install to the disk
2. upgrade / update  an existing install
3. use it as a live cd
4. rescue a borked install

out of these currently we are discussing the installer. so 1,2 and 4 apply;
and i think vagner's point refers to number 2 above.
