Hello!

I use VirtualDub both original and VirtualDub2 to edit some videos. If I want an MPEG1 or MPEG2 version of the video, instead of first saving to an AVI file, I start frame server so I can feed the result directly to TMPGEnc. This works fine in the old TMPGEnc Plus 2.5 that can accept a .vdr file, but the newer Using frame server in TMPGEnc Video Mastering Works 5 doesn't support .vdr files. I try to use the .avi extension instead, but Using frame server in TMPGEnc Video Mastering Works 5 fails to successfully open the frameserver.avi file and proceed with the conversion. Am I doing something wrong? Is there any way to use the frame server in new TMPGEnc or other editing application? I could create a "master" file in VirtualDub in very good quality (such as huvyuff lossless video compression) and open than in TMPGenc, but this is not very convenient. If there is any way to use VirtualDub frame server I would prefer it.

Thanks in advance.

VD frameserver relies on very legacy protocol which nobody bothers to support. IMO creating temporary file is the most efficient way. If you absolutely want frameserver, you can try to use intermediate frameserver with vapoursynth avfs.

I don't want to mess with programming, I guess my best option is to create a "master" and use this file for the final MPEG version.
