Activity for VcXsrv Windows X Server

  • Shellybrone Shellybrone posted a comment on discussion Help

This usually comes down to X server display conflicts on RDS, since VcXsrv isn’t multi-user aware by default. Each session typically needs its own display and separate VcXsrv instance, otherwise the second user won’t get an X11 window. Threads like this are really helpful for diagnosing niche setups—detailed explanations add a lot of value, much like clear resources when looking for something specific such as a dxo viewpoint full version.

You don’t need a custom build to run VcXsrv twice. You can use one installation and create separate shortcuts with different startup parameters and separate .XWinrc files (different display numbers, -noframe, -topmost, etc.), which allows two independent setups on the same Windows PC without conflicts. Custom renaming during compilation is possible but usually unnecessary and harder to maintain. For similar parallel setup and isolation ideas, see: https://2jbet.game/

You could try setting up a separate instance with a renamed executable and custom config files—that usually works for multiple installations. For more tips on similar setups and tools, 777sx has some useful guides and resources.

This sounds like a scaling or DPI issue with the X server when running certain apps over SSH or WSL. Some applications don’t automatically adjust to the system’s display settings, which causes oversized or cropped cursors. A common fix is to adjust the DPI or scaling settings in your X server configuration, or try launching the app with environment variables like GDK_SCALE=1 or GDK_DPI_SCALE=1. Good find on using the -run parameter that’s actually the cleanest way to skip the wizard on startup. It sounds like you’re trying to streamline your X application setup with VcXsrv and SSH keys. For the “Start a program” option, the private key usually needs to be in a format compatible with VcXsrv or the SSH client you’re using—PuTTY’s .ppk format sometimes needs conversion to OpenSSH format to paste cleanly. Another approach is to use an SSH config file with the correct paths to your key and user, which can simplify authentication without needing to manually enter passwords. On a side note, for...
