Hello, The relatedness statistic is based on the method of Yang et al, 2010 (doi:10.1038/ng.608). Specifically, it calculates the unadjusted Ajk statistic (equation 6 of paper). The expectation of Ajk is zero for individuals within a populations, and one for an individual with themselves. However, it assumes that the individuals in the VCF file form a reasonably large sample from a population. The equation isn't appropriate for a small sample of related individuals. The F statistic is the inbreeding coefficient. Again, this calculation assumes a reasonably large sample from a population.
