VAX Universe Final Release - Version 1.30

The last version of VAX Universe, version 1.30, is now available. Navigate over to the "Files" area to fetch the .tar.gz archive.

Since our last release (1.09) continued playtesting revealed more problems that needed to be addressed. We added many new features and little improvements. The game plays better than ever.

Because our goal was to port this old game over to C, there had to come a time where the development needed to stop. With old games such as VAX Universe, new features could have been added ad inifinitum. With only a few bugfixes per year, we feel the game is in a good place to halt development and close the project.... read more

Final Version of VAX Universe

Hello!

uniman here. VAX Universe has been in intense development/playtesting for a very long time and we are preparing to release VAX Universe version 1.30!

This will be the final version. All of our development and porting objectives have been met. What was once VAX Universe, running solely on old mainframes and largely forgotten, has been polished up and is now presentable as a very entertaining X Terminal game that accurately captures the "feel" of computer games circa 1980.... read more

VAX Universe Beta 0.80 Available

The newest version, Beta 0.80, contains minor fixes and improvements. One significant change is that black holes will no longer be too close to the starbase (I honestly doubt the federation would construct a starbase near a black hole).

Welcome to Uni!

Hello and welcome to Universe. I have begun to construct the SourceForge home for this project and wanted to post an initial communication to interested readers about what is coming in the near future.

VAX UNIVERSE was an old game from my teenage adventures at a computer club and was perhaps the finest example of the console games of yesteryear. This project started many years ago as a personal quest to resurrect an old game and to make it playable again on Linux. Now that the code is nearly ready it was time to make a home for it and to release it for others to enjoy.
