Hi guys, Isn't there anything that can be done regarding the spam messages that go through? Thanks, -- Gheorghe Postelnicu, PhD MGH, Harvard Medical School |

I have set for all my mailman based lists that only list members may write to the list, and everything else has to be admin approved and can only then be send to the list. This reduced spam amount to zero, since no spammer seems to try to register to a mailinglist. But the drawback is that it adds some administration overhead, you have to regularily clean up the pending mails etc.... But you can also add people to whitelists who are registered to receive on one address only and send from multiple ones. greets Dennis |

Yes only allowing members to write to the list is the best solution to prevent this spam. I've also done it for the Crystal Space mailing lists which are also hosted by SourceForge. Hi, Nicholas Nethercote wrote: > This is a SourceForge list. If you can tell us how to improve spam > filtering on a SourceForge list, please let us know. Yes, of course. Just login at SourceForge and turn this mailing list into a member-post-only list: Admin -> Lists/Forums -> Manage Mailing Lists -> Admister/Update Lists -> Administer this list in GNU Mailman -> <Login at mailman, you can set a special password in SF> -> Privacy Options -> Sender Filters -> Set "generic_nonmember_action" to reject. Mailman interface is also accessible at: https://lists.sourceforge.net/lists/admin/valgrind-users Thanks. Florian |

Done. Thanks for the hint. I had been confused by the presence of spam on the list because I assumed (incorrectly) it already was in a member-post-only state. J |

It probably was before Sourceforge did an update on their system a month or two ago and for some reason all member-only-post lists were reverted to open posting.
