Hi, You'll see that I've been doing some tweaking related to Bugzilla. This is because I want to start using Bugzilla more; we're really under-utilising it at the moment. One thing I did was improve the instructions at http://www.valgrind.org/support/bug_reports.html. Another thing I did was to create two "milestones" (a.k.a. "targets"): blocking3.5.0 and wanted3.5.0. The aim of these is to mark which bugs must be fixed before 3.5.0, and which ones we'd particularly like to be fixed in 3.5.0. This will supplant the 3_4_BUGSTATUS.txt files that have been used previously in docs/internals/. I also plan to go through all the old bugs and close a lot of the ones that seem hopeless (eg. crashes from 2.2.0 where the responsible file doesn't even exist anymore). I'll also try to improve some of the categorisations of the non-closed ones. In the future, I will try to be more proactive about getting users to report bugs via Bugzilla rather than the users list, and it would be good if others did too... I think if Bugzilla is used well it makes things better for users and developers -- bugs are less likely to get lost, or come up again and again without memory of the previous occurrences. Comments, questions, etc. are welcome! Nick |

Sorry - should have phrased that differently. How about bugzilla.valgrind.org instead of KDE. The Valgrind project isn't hosted on KDE any more, but the bug tracker is. It's not really important, and I'm sure someone has already thought of it and decided not to. Just wondering why. Time and effort, basically. (Well, that's assuming you can export part of a bugzilla database and create a new bugzilla database from it.) The current one works fine, and moving it would only result in small gains -- a nicer URL, no need to select "valgrind" as the component, we could choose the colour scheme... Julian and/or Donna and/or Ceri would have to do the work, presumably, because it involves valgrind.org, and I suspect they have more pressing things to work on... As for a bugzilla.valgrind.org --> bugs.kde.org redirect, I guess it wouldn't hurt, but again it would only be a small gain. Nick |

FWIW, it's trivial to do a redirect with Apache... On Jun 25, 2009, at 8:01 AM, Robert Walsh wrote: > Sorry - should have phrased that differently. How about bugzilla.valgrind.org > instead of KDE. Well, I wasn't suggesting that we redirect the entire KDE bug tracking to valgrind.org... :-) Regards, Robert.
