Hello, As I mentioned in a previous post, I have been trying to work with valgrind on FreeBSD. I have noticed that when I run my software, valgrind starts it, and immediate returns that there were no errors/warnings etc, while leaving the executable hanging in a zombie state. Is there a way to turn on some debug mode or something that will show why this happening? Thanks |

What is Heap.cpp doing at line 61?
Where did it get the pointer of memory allocated that it's passing
to memset() ?

Do you mean 'block' here, with the definition from above ('set' is the
result) ? Can you be more precise about the expression you would use?

Usually, yes. With the result that the number of sets is a power of 2.
Cachegrind/Callgrind can handle this quite fine, e.g. Intel Atom
has 24kB L1D, with associativity 6. No problem.
But if the processor tells me that L3 has an associativity which makes
the number of sets being not a power of two?
Would you say that if CPUID tells me an associativity of 32, but
the CPU at hand has e.g. only 3 cores and thus L3 distributed on the
3 tiles of the chip, the associativity of 32 must be a lie?
If the cache has 96K lines, then (except for fully-

This would mean that different sets can have a different number of ways
each, wouldn't it?
As we do not know the hardware in the case anyway, I think 'modulo' is
the simplest thing to do, to approximate any possible real hardware.
Josef
and if so then only an

Hi,
I installed valgrind 3.8.1 and when I tried to run with a C++ executable it
always terminates with SIGSEGV for a C++ static variable initialization.
Is there any fix available for this issue in valgrind?
We could not proceed further. We tried to check for patches but we could
not succeed.
We faced the same problem with the earlier version of valgrind as well
(3.1.1)
*glibc version:* ldd (GNU libc) 2.3.4
*gcc version: *gcc (GCC) 3.4.6 20060404 (Red Hat 3.4.6-11)
We have checked the code base.
It starts from a class's static variable definition in one of our internal
CPP files.
>From there it says global contructors keyed to and then inturn to memset.
We are always getting valgrind core immediately when we start the valgrind
for our image.
Below is the backtrace of the valgrind core. The static variable
initialization is the one that triggers the segmentation fault.
Is it possible to run valgrind completely for my binary without terminating
in between due to any of these signals like SIGSEGV.
Do we have any such options to configure valgrind or is there any patch or
workaround for this issue?
Thanks,
Kalai
