The android emulator for ARM apps is an important development environment that valgrind should support. Currently any tool of valgrind for ARM gets an immediate SIGSEGV under the android emulator. The android emulator supports armv7 but without the CPU feature "tls" (hardware support for ThreadLocalStorage.) Patches are attached to this bug: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=302709 valgrind for ARM needs extra tls support for android emulator -- |

(general question) what does the standard says happens if the array size is
zero or negative, at run time?
Ok for the change provided that
(1) the num-callers is limited to some sane values at startup so we can't
trash the stack. >= 1 and <= 500 say. The V thread stacks are small
(64k) (or were, at least, maybe not any more)
(2) this doesn't change the amount of memory required to store the ExeContexts
in the heap (but I'm sure it doesn't -- you're only talking about stack
allocation, right?)

A week or so ago somebody wanted to run with --num-callers=100 which did
not fly because there is a hard-wired maximum of 50. This is kind of
lame in particular in this instance where it can easily be avoided by
using a variable length array:

UInt n_ips;
init_ExeContext_storage();
VLAs are part of C for more than a decade now so I presume their use
should be OK (we're requiring C99 features in other places already, e.g.
mixing declarations and statements). Both gcc and clang support them.
I have a proper patch to fix the above issue but wanted to double check
first that use of VLAs is OK in valgrind.

Another thing you could try is the --log-socket command to V (--log-socket=127.0.0.1:1500 ; and run valgrind-listener in a different shell). This sends all V output to the socket and avoids any possibility that V's output is confusing the shell somehow. J |

You might try other tools to search for possible bugs causing this (e.g. --tool=helgrind, --tool=drd, --tool=exp-sgcheck). (is the ksh93 using threads ? if not, helgrind/drd cannot help) Alternatively, if you are doing tricky things with signals, maybe --vex-iropt-precise-memory-exns=yes might help. You can also debug in parallel a native run of ksh93 and a run under Valgrind, and see when they start to diverge. Philippe |

Here comes a reduced testcase:
-- snip --
cat > 'myscript' <<CHICKENMONSTER
function mkobj
{
printf '%s\n' '( bar=2 baz=3 foo=1 )'
}
mkobj bla
CHICKENMONSTER
chmod +x 'myscript'
#force_subshell_fork="ulimit -c 0"
out="$(${force_subshell_fork} ; ./myscript 1)"
exp='( bar=2 baz=3 foo=1 )'
if ! [[ "${out}" == "${exp}" ]] ; then
printf 'compound var arithmetic failed, expected %q, got %q\n' \
"${exp}" \
"${out}"
fi
-- snip --
