Date: Wednesday, May 26, 2010, 2:02 PM Hi, I don't know if this helps you, but what is the output from configure? configure checks for altivec support, and it seems to me like this isn't supported by your compiler. I run valgrind on a ppc. The (cross)compiler (4.1.2) supports altivec, but the CPU doesn't. And valgrind builds and runs fine for me using similar build method as you describe. When I run configure it says that altivec is supported (by the compiler). It would be interesting to see what happens if you hack configure to believe altivec isn't supported. If this doesn't help you, you can hack the: "checking for /proc/self/fd... configure: error: cannot check for file problem in 3.5.0. (I did that locally). BTW: There is one more case in configure just like the fd problem, which also can be hacked... -Mogens Gary Yang <gar...@ya...> 26-05-2010 22:35 To Bart Van Assche <bva...@ac...> cc val...@li..., val...@li... Hi Bart, Thanks for your reply. I read https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=238745. However, I did not find a solution. I added --disable-tls for configure. I still got the error. Earlier, I got the code from valgrind-3.5.0.tar.bz2. But, I got the error when I run configure. Error: "checking for /proc/self/fd... configure: error: cannot check for file existence when cross compiling" I searched this problem. It says, "This has been reported some time ago as bug #204843 (https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=204843) and has been fixed on the trunk and on the 3.5 branch". That is the reason I use the trunk. The last printed line ("goto {Sys_int128} 0x401491B:I32") isn't in the
list of IR statements in the IRSB. It is instead the contents of
IRSB.next and IRSB.jumpkind. Your instrumenter needs to look at
this too. It's designed like that (each block must supply a
where-next value) so as to make it impossible to have the nonsensical
situation where a block is a sequence of IR statements from which
you can fall off the end, without any indication of what the next
block is.

I just noticed that unconditional branches aren't getting passed to my
instrumenter. When I run with --trace-flags=10000000, Valgrind outputs
IR like
------ IMark(0x4014919, 2) ------
PUT(60) = 0x4014919:I32
PUT(320) = 0x4014919:I32
goto {Sys_int128} 0x401491B:I32
but my instrumenter sees only
------ IMark(0x4014919, 2) ------
PUT(60) = 0x4014919:I32
PUT(320) = 0x4014919:I32
Similarly, when Valgrind outputs
------ IMark(0x4015DDE, 1) ------
PUT(60) = 0x4015DDE:I32
t12 = LDle:I32(t25)
t28 = Add32(t25,0x4:I32)
PUT(16) = t28
goto {Return} t12
my instrumenter sees only
------ IMark(0x4015DDE, 1) ------
PUT(60) = 0x4015DDE:I32
t12 = LDle:I32(t25)
t28 = Add32(t25,0x4:I32)
PUT(16) = t28
Is there a way my instrumenter can request that it be passed *all* IR
instructions?
Thanks,
-- Scott
P.S. I'm mostly interested in system calls, so I might be able to get
away with VG_(needs_syscall_wrapper), but I'm curious about the
missing IR instructions. I assume there's a good reason that they're
being dropped?

Log:
Fix amd64 and ppc64 to correctly mark mq_timedreceive as LINXY so that
the post handler is run to mark the retrieved message as correct.
Also change the post handler to only mark the number of bytes actually
returned as defined, rather than the whole buffer.
Fixes #238679.

Obtaining a writer lock from a thread that already holds a reader lock, as
in f2(), will cause a deadlock sooner or later if multiple threads do this
simultaneously. Thread checking tools should always report attempts to
obtain a writer lock while a reader lock is being held.
