Yeah, seen those bugtrack entries and read the blog post :) I'd love to at least get the patches - to tell you the truth I couldn't care less if it took half an hour to start up :) Just as long as I could run it. -- Cheers, Matt Riddell Director _______________________________________________ http://www.venturevoip.com/news.php (Daily Asterisk News) http://www.venturevoip.com/st.php (SmoothTorque Predictive Dialer) http://www.venturevoip.com/c3.php (ConduIT3 PABX Systems) |

Hi all, I use Debian Linux as my main production machines, and OSX Snow Leopard on my laptop. I was wondering if there's a plan to support 10.6 (Snow Leopard) in valgrind and if there is anything I can do to help with getting this to happen - I'd really love to be able to run in valgrind locally rather than uploading to a server to check. Obviously my code runs on OSX, but I prefer to run each change through Valgrind to make sure things don't get away on me :) -- Cheers, Matt Riddell Director _______________________________________________ http://www.venturevoip.com/news.php (Daily Asterisk News) http://www.venturevoip.com/st.php (SmoothTorque Predictive Dialer) http://www.venturevoip.com/c3.php (ConduIT3 PABX Systems) |

It is currently available in the FreeBSD ports collection, but supporting internal fork of valgrind project seems to me not the best way to go. There will be operational costs needed to integrate our patches into the three, but I don't think they will be *too* high. Target audience is questionable, but note that FreeBSD is heavily used as server OS where server applications get profiled and where darwin is not widely used. Let me know your thoughts. In short, Valgrind ports are, as you say, a great deal of work. The recent Darwin port represented years of work. And the audience for a *BSD port is greatly smaller than Darwin. So the cost/benefit ratio doesn't look very good. Nick |

It does sound like a useful tool. Probably the best thing is to file a bug and attach the patch, see http://www.valgrind.org/support/features.html. It's possible that it could end up in the public Valgrind tree. Some prerequisites for that: - the code must be of sufficient quality - there must be good tests and documentation - it should be demonstrably useful (testimony from others would be useful) - you must be willing to maintain it. Hi, I notice the record & replay tool on Valgrind: http://article.gmane.org/gmane.comp.debugging.valgrind.devel/5116/match=record+replay and I find it is a very interesting tool. What about the current progress of this tool? Does it keep maintained? From the maillist, I notice that the tools can record the non-determinism information of the program, and replay it. However, I confused by the following question: (1) Does it record all the instructions when the program is running? If not, except the non-determinism information, does it record other information such as the environment information? (2) Can extend the tool to be a checkpoint/replay tool? That is to say, I can set some checkpoint when program is running, and when it fails, I can select the correct point, and replay it from that point? Thanks Chen Ping |
