Hi, I just found out that V replaces call x x: popl %reg with mov %eip, %reg This sequence is still common (with GCC 2.95.x) even if it's avoided in newer compiler version because of the negative effects to the stack cache (or how it's called?) on newer processors. This is fine for my skin, as it won't be detected as a CALL sequence, and it's a lot faster because there's no start of a new basic block. But the results of Cachegrind go wrong with this replacement: Originally, this instruction sequence does a memory write + read with 2 instruction fetches, but Cachegrind only logs 1 (!) instruction fetch for the whole sequence. So I think this needs special handling in the instrumentation of Cachegrind. I am just not sure how to do it. Is it enough to check for a mov from %eip, and generate 2 calls/CCs to log handlers?
