Thank you for checking the mailing list and answering my questions.

I added the "--without-mpicc" option to the configure process, and the
build succeeded!
I was not aware that this had been reported in the past.
I didn't check the MPI downgrade, but I'll try it when I can and add it to
this mailing list.
