Good bye, CodingIRC IRCd!

We are very sorry to announce development on CodingIRC IRCd is now dead. The last release was not public, and was pre1. The last release ever made was utucs-ircd-2.0.00 (somewhere in there). CodingIRC will go back to stock Bahamut.

Why is 2.2 taking so long?

Hello all,

We were expected to have codingirc-2.2.00-pre2 out within the next few days.

Unfortunately, that did not happen. The reason CodingIRC IRCd 2.2 is taking so long is because of the extra features that are being added. Features include (some are bug fixes):

* Little fix in /warn and /snotice.
* Whowas bug fix (only a user will be shown 5 times).
* New installation scripts (awesome!).
* New tools.
* Easier linking to the CodingIRC IRC Network.
* Configuration generator (yes!)
* Client sends 1024 length buffer, client gets disconnected.... read more

Server Modes

Server modes have been a good feature in IRCds like Undernet's IRCu. While this IRCd is not as good as others (I have to say that, Undernet's IRCd is not as feature-packet as Bahamut/codingirc), the server mode feature is still good. Good news!

This feature has been added in codingirc-2.2(00)pre2. Expect the release of pre2 to be out for the public in about 2 days.

How it is done: &me is used to send a *server* command. &me is the server's little information center. The server name is stored inside it. It is basically an aClient structure. Well, we use this and change the sender to the name. It can be done by IRC operators that have +a, in /samode. In our testing server, we saw this:... read more

WHOWAS Issue

Note to all users running the old utucs-ircd versions

In the new codingirc version, running 1.8.3 (utucs-ircd versions were created using 1.8.1) of Bahamut, we found a /whowas issue. A patch will be released in codingirc 2.2's prerelease version 2.

It is very easy to trigger, for example: /whowas Eddie on any CodingIRC server (note: trogdor is running codingirc-2.2(00)pre2; sunlight is running bahamut-1.8(03)):... read more

Download.US.UTUCS-IRCd.org Shut Down

We would like to alert everyone that download.us.utucs-ircd.org has been shut down permanently, due to a lack of bandwidth. We are unable to continue hosting this, however SourceForge.net's download servers are still going to be mirroring the codingirc releases.

Development

Hello all,

It's been a long time since there's a post - but that doesn't mean development has stopped. At this time we are still coding utucs-ircd-2.0.00.

There might be 1 more release of 1.0.00 - but, at this time, development has stopped for 1.0.00.

Thank you,
UTUCS.com Development Team

utucs-ircd-1.0.01 - Non-serious change

One change has been added to utucs-ircd - the /info text said utucs-ircd-1.0.00 is an RC. utucs-ircd-1.0.01 fixes this.

All UTUCS.com servers will be upgraded to this IRCd released.

Thank you,
UTUCS.com Development Team

utucs-ircd-1.0.00 Released!

We are very happy to announce utucs-ircd-1.0.00 is now available! There are not any major changes - other than a /oper fix - which blacklists a known hacking host (*@as22-126.qualitynet.net), that floods /oper requests (we suspect), by sending it an error, whether it has a valid oper username/password or not.

Thank you,
UTUCS.com Development Team

The UTUCS.com Development Team is very happy to announce utucs-ircd has its first release canidate! We are done adding features to utucs-ircd - we are now looking for exploits and bugs.

All UTUCS.com servers will be upgraded. The client server has already been updated - we are upgrading the hub, at this time or writing.

There will probably be 3 RCs before we go to a stable/production version.

Thank you,

New MD5 Sums & Extra Info

We have added MD5 sums to all of our releases! The *.md5 files are the MD5 checksums. You should use this command to check:

md5 utucs-ircd-1.0.00-preX.tar.gz

Then, verify that the MD5 sum matches with the one in the *.md5 file.

In addition to MD5 sums and i386 support, we are planning on adding Solaris/SPARC support. If you would like to help by porting utucs-ircd to other platforms/archs, please e-mail eddie at linux101.net (e-mail put in format non-readable by spam bots).... read more

utucs-ircd-1.0.00(CVS)pre3 - Users *urged* to upgrade

A remote crash exploit with /info has been found - and a fix has been made available in CVS.

The exploit can be triggered by any user with a simple /info command. Large nets running utucs-ircd are *URGED* to upgrade due to this serious exploit.

It cannot start a DoS attack, but any backtraces with s_serv.c are due to this /info exploit. Basically, a bit of code in m_info() caused utucs-ircd to segfault. The code altogether has been removed.... read more
