hello
users' email addresses are often not the same as their
user names for the mail server. therefore I often have
to "hand create" a .forward file that uses the "vacation -a
mail@address user" alias switch format
it would be wonderful if your module could create these
automatically, then users could manage their own
vacation files through usermin.
did that make sense? I hope so.

Can you send me what you did to make it work with
usernames that are aliased to users on the server?

I was fooling around and this is what I found.
Once the auto-vacation modual is installed,
I had to use the Mail forward in usermin to
forward to "Auto reply message" - .vacation.msg
and then make another forward within that same
forward, to forward to normal user mailbox.
This allowed email addresses other than the actual server
usernames to work as well.

My apologies for not getting to this sooner. I didn't have email
notifications turned on for bug reports (D'oh!) I'm in the
middle of moving right now, but should hopefully have this
fixed within a couple of weeks.

Hi Crucible
Any news on the update to Vacation allowing '-a' alias
settings? It can get the -a from the sendmail generics table
Thanks

Hi Crucible!
Userminvacation project is smartest and terribly needed (I
think, hope).
But today is 2004-02-25 and project is year old soon.
How about promised "alias function"?
Thank you,
Aksel

Again, my apologies for not getting around to fixing this.
I'm all moved, but I'm in the middle of gut-renovating my
house and don't have my dev machine up and running. The
house is all dusty and in a shambles and not really a
hospitible environment for computers these days.
Carlton Thomas has released an 0.9a version that includes
the alias functionality. It is available here:

I don't really expect to be doing any more development on
this module in the future. I originally wrote it for a
friend's company, but they don't use it anymore. I don't use
in production anywhere, so I don't really have any incentive
to maintain it. If someone would like to take over the
project, please contact me and I'll gladly pass off the
project to someone who can give it the love and care it
deserves.
