I'm having problems logging in as root with UML. I can log in as a user and then su to root no problem. My host is running Redhat Linux 7.2 and the UML is booting a Redhat 6.2 filesystem (created by installing to a disk partition, copying to a file, and making a few mods such as /etc/fstab). I use the following command line to start UML: linux ubd0=cow-rh62.ext2,rh62.ext2 ubd7=swap.swap umid=rh62 con=pty con0=fd:0,fd:1 con1=tty:/dev/tty9 root=/dev/ubd0 I have also tried the Redhat 6.2 filesystem available on Sourceforge and it seems to work correctly with the same command line (with different filenames of course). What could be my problem? I've duplicated the /etc/securetty file from the downloaded Redhat 6.2 install but that isn't doing it. I've also installed the devfsd RPM like the downloaded Redhat 6.2 install but that didn't help either. Any assistance would be appreciated. David Christensen |

Check /var/log/messages once you 'su' to root - It could be a number of things, but the log files will tell you exactly what is wrong. -- David Coulson http://davidcoulson.net/ d...@vi... http://journal.davidcoulson.net/ |
