Dear list, i'v patched the vanilla 2.6.2 Kernel with the patches 1.)=09uml-patch-2.6.2-0.bz2 2.)=0900-Combo-v1.bz2 3.)=0900-2.6.2-v1-host-SKAS.patch.bz2 i followed the instructions i found on BlaisorBlades sf site (i hope). Bu= t=20 compiling stops with the following msg: CHK include/asm-i386/asm_offsets.h CHK include/linux/compile.h UPD include/linux/compile.h GEN .version CHK include/linux/compile.h UPD include/linux/compile.h mm/built-in.o: In function `write_proc_mm': mm/built-in.o(.text+0x18dc4): undefined reference to `mm_copy_segments' make: *** [.tmp_vmlinux1] Error 1 Could somebody pls so kind teaching me to find ans solve my fault. Is there a working 2.6.3 host skas patch out there? BTW there was a time (2.4.x kernel) threre are working patches on the sf = site,=20 but now i see some chaos there. You probably did; just that patch is broken, and I soon replaced it (about 1 week ago). Unapply it with: bzcat 00-2.6.2-v1-host-SKAS.patch.bz2|patch -p1 -R and apply the new one (note it is SKAS2, not SKAS): bzcat 00-2.6.2-v1-host-SKAS2.patch.bz2|patch -p1 You can find it here: http://www.user-mode-linux.org/~blaisorblade/patches/2.6.2-v1-host-skas2/00-2.6.2-v1-host-SKAS2.patch.bz2 > Could somebody pls so kind teaching me to find ans solve my fault. > > Is there a working 2.6.3 host skas patch out there? The same patch works for 2.6.3. However, on the site there is a new, single SKAS patch for 2.6 (applies perfectly on 2.6.3). If you have not a SMP machine, it is perfect; if you have, try it and report the result. I've updated the homepage (at http://www.user-mode-linux.org/~blaisorblade) so that I hope instructions are clear. Yes, I am by far better at coding than at being clear. Now there is however 1 patch to apply and it is described at the top of the page. > [... some chaos on sf.net] The 2.4 skas patch is still there on sf.net; for 2.4.25 it needs some changes and the new one can be found on my page. -- Paolo Giarrusso, aka Blaisorblade Linux registered user n. 292729 |

I tried to compile guest UML (2.6.3 vanilla with uml-patch-2.6.3-rc2-1), following your instructions but I've got next error message: --------------------------------------------------------------------- CC arch/um/kernel/ksyms.o arch/um/kernel/ksyms.c:35: `host_task_size' undeclared here (not in a function) arch/um/kernel/ksyms.c:35: initializer element is not constant arch/um/kernel/ksyms.c:35: (near initialization for `__ksymtab_host_task_size.va lue') make[1]: *** [arch/um/kernel/ksyms.o] Error 1 make: *** [arch/um/kernel] Error 2 --------------------------------------------------------------------- What is wrong? I solved that yesterday by adding #include "mem_user.h" to arch/um/kernel/ksyms.c I see right now the same solution in the patch you just sent to solve problems with EXPORT_SYMBOL. |

Has anyone tried running their UML root from an iSCSI LUN? Does it run under UML? I was thinking about it and think it may be a very easy way to set up reliable storage for multiple UML filesystems. Ideas anyone? |

funny :) i just asked a similar question just some days ago to the maintainer of enbd.(http://www.it.uc3m.es/~ptb/nbd/) ì wanted to know, if i could have a uml root-device via enbd. the answer was: no - not i a manner like you are used to have a root-fs vie kernel nfs! you need at least an initrd. why? because enbd needs a daemon which runs in userspace, which does the network transfers. i don`t know much about iscsi - but as far as i read http://linux-iscsi.sourceforge.net/, iscsi seems to need a deamon process running in userspace, too. so - probably no iscsi connection before running the daemon. means: you also need an initial ramdisk to run the daemon from. i found, there is a iscsi-root mini-howto http://eludicate.com/~bolen/iscsi/ looks good - i think it is possible to have uml with an iscsi root, if you go via initrd. btw: is there a way to build an "iscsi storage system" yourself - i.e. without buying expensive hardware? is there something for linux, that can emulate iscsi on the "server side" ? regards roland ----- Original Message ----- From: <um...@do...> To: <use...@li...> Sent: Thursday, March 11, 2004 9:28 PM Subject: [uml-user] iSCSI under UML > Has anyone tried running their UML root from an iSCSI LUN?
