A small point
In your first section you have
brctl setfd bridge1 1
brctl sethello bridge2 1
brctl stp bridge1 off
I think you may want bridge1 in the sethello
this may not actually be your problem though
are you running this as a script that you copied to the
e-mail or do you just type it in, your previous e-mail had
the same sethello...
I haven't explored bridging much, for this I would
have used uml_switch for the con1 network rather
than a second bridge.
Why are you using this setup? are you just exploring
bridging? or do you need the two bridges for some
other purpose. Otherwise I would expect bridging
to only be used if you want one of its features.
On the interface not showing up I have frequently
used more than one ethX from inside UML, to
setup the second you may have to manually issue the
"ifconfig eth1" command to see it, unconfigured
devices are not normally shown with just a plain
"ifconfig" and most root_fs's don't have the scripts
configured to setup a second interface.
