While testing out user-mode-linux, I encountered some problems with
Minicom -p and UML. The first time I use minicom to connect to the TTY pair,
everything works well. However, if I disconnect and connect agains after a
few minutes, the the TTY stops responding or responds very slowly. If
anybody has encountered this before, please point out if I am doing anything
On another note, I am running a bridge between my eth and tap interfaces
with the new bridging code and brctl with STP on. It runs really well and
can replace my vmware setup. With normal tap and proxy arp I am wasting one
IP which I don't have with my cable modem package. The only gripe I have is
that since I did not give an IP on eth0=ethertap,tap0,xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx when
I start the eth0 interface in the UML, tap0 does not automatically up. I
have no problems with that since I can up the interface before running the
UML, however when I down the eth interface in the UML, the host tap device
downs as well. So if I restart the UML, the tap device will go down when the
UML calls a eth down and would not come up again after a reboot.
I looked at the source code of uml_net and found that it I can disable the
daemon changing the tap interface to down when the UML downs its eth.
However, I was wondering if it was possible to consider this case in the
design of uml_net. If an IP is not passed on the command line, either up the
tap interface without an IP, or do not down the tap interface when the UML
interface is downed.
In any case, these minor problems did not reduce my enjoyment of UML. You
guys did a great job.
