After few days playing around with UML (a really great environnement!)
several questions have come to my mind. All you would like to know about
UML and do not dare to ask...
1/ What is the impact of the mem=XXM parameter on the performance of an
UML machine ? 16M seems allocated by default (output of free command
within my UML machine, host having 128M of memory). Am I correct ?
2/ Does a swap file improve performance of an UML machine ? Or is the
UML using "indirectly" the host swap file ?
3/ Is it possible to replace xterm by another program (eterm, kterm)
that would allow an easier screen buffering ? (I tried a symlink
xterm-->eterm, did not work :-(
4/ When 3 xterms are opened after login due to inittab setup, is it
possible to login with just one ? Does this improve performance (less
memory being used) significantly ?
5/ When running UML in a console CTRL-C does not work (works OK in an
xterm). No way to cancel a ping which does not respond : had to cancel
my all session. Anyway around this ?
Jeff: you recently asked for volunteers. I would definitively be unable
to help on programming. What about a FAQ ? I am ready to volunteer on
this if you think it can help.
