Hooking multiple umls together has been one of my wishes for a long time.
However, there is the need to make it low-latency, and generic. What could be
done, is having a shared mmap'd file, that all umls would hook into.
Additionally, a shared bitset(semaphores) would mediate access on a paged
basis to this shared memory.
The only time a local uml would need to set the bit, was when it needed to
update the page, because of some process that had written to it.
This could all be done with standard IPC, which has the benefit of there being
variants that work inter-machine.
If this idea seems worthwhile, I might take a go at implementing it.
Initially, uml itself would not use it for inter-uml communication, it would
just allocate the block, and manage it.
